My name is Scott Meyers, and as I understand it, I am the nation’s foremost Self Storage “Guru”, having shared my strategies with thousands of people all across this great country and making several Millionaires in the process.

In my Home Study System titled "The Complete Guide to Finding, Evaluating, and Purchasing Self Storage Facilities”, I describe how over the past 14 years how I've gone from renovating $24,000 fixer-upper homes to rehabbing several multi-family apartment complexes, industrial buildings, and office complexes, to now focusing solely on purchasing and developing multi-million dollar, state of the art Self Storage Facilities.

Sure the facilities we run are fabulous, and our systems for educating investors are widely recognized as the best in the industry. However, our most important contributions to society have come through our various missions and charities. We have been blessed to be in a position to help provide the world's most desperately poor and homeless from around the world with some of the most basic of human needs.

Our company, Self Storage Profits, Inc., has committed a large portion of its allotted budget to being a repeat sponsor to numerous orphanages, schools, and charities around the world. Having almost lost our real estate empire and nearly being forced to file bankruptcy, and then ultimately spared from financial ruin, my wife Christina and I felt compelled to honor God by helping those around the world who aren’t afforded the opportunities available to us here in America. We do this in gratitude for the mercy and compassion showed to us during the years we endured our financial crisis.

This new conviction played a small part in our decision to adopt our 3rd child when we chose to expand our family. Ella Xiao has been a tremendous blessing in our lives and our adoption experience was wonderful. Our agency, Chinese Children Adoptions International www.ChineseChildren.org was fabulous, and came highly recommended.

CCAI was founded with the hopes of finding homes for one or two children. Fourteen years later, CCAI has helped more than 7,500 Chinese children to be embraced into loving families. During the course of a year, they now help an average of more than 3 children per working day to find their forever families!

Today, they are more than an adoption agency. While adoption remains their specialty, they established the Chinese Children Charity Fund in 1995 to help those children left behind in China by providing food, clothes, medical care, education, training, and foster care. Since 1996, they have run the Joyous Chinese Cultural Center to ensure that adopted Chinese children across the country will have a link to their heritage. CCAI works toward improving the lives of abandoned Chinese children, whether they have a family in the U.S. or are waiting for one in a Chinese orphanage.

Although we were extremely familiar with the challenges facing orphan girls in China, we were surprised at the level of poverty and the multitude of additional social challenges that this country was facing. Upon our return to the land of opportunity, we were once again reminded how blessed we are to live in this country and how vast the plight of poverty is in other parts of the world. Having witnessed how widespread this problem is on previous trips to Mexico, The Dominican Republic, South America, China, and remote areas of Europe, we felt called to give back and begin making a difference, no matter how small.

We began by pledging our support to the Centro de Apoyo Psicopedayogico (“The Little Yellow School House”) www.isla-mujeres.net/school/home.htm Located in Isla Mujeres, Mexico. On a recent trip, to the island, we donated some much needed clothes, school supplies, and financial assistance to this struggling institution.  

The main purpose of The Little Yellow School House is to provide instruction to children with special needs some of whom aren’t able to attend public school due to mental handicaps (mental retardation, Down syndrome, or are handicapped with learning disabilities such as hyperactivity, attention span deficit, dyslexia, paralysis, etc. The school assists approximately 35 children and growing.

About 85% of these students come from homes of alcoholics. Many are from abusive homes. The school offers a group therapy session for the parents of these children to help them better understand the needs of their families.

We are also involved in supporting Frank McKinney, The Rock and Roll Real Estate Czar’s, Caring House Project Foundation.

The Caring House Project Foundation www.frank-mckinney.com/caring_project.aspx was founded in 1998 with a mission to return stability and hope to homes where the most basic needs of shelter are not being met. Its mission has expanded over the years to include elements now crucial to a sulf-sufficient existence where the poor and homeless will no longer have to rely on government nor charities to sustain and improve their lives. CHPF is now creating villages based upon this self-sufficiency, such as their recent projects in Testasse, Haiti, and the recently completed village in Los Cacaos, Haiti, near the Dominican Republic border, which included: 35 double homes, a 3,125 sq. ft. school, a large 4,000 sq. ft. community center, a health clinic, establishment of renewable food source to maximize annual yields. This project touched nearly 700 lives. However, The Caring House Project Foundation is not in the charity business, they are in the self-sufficiency business. When they identify where a small sprinkling of free enterprise might provide for ongoing, life-sustaining capital, they immediately go to work to provide opportunites.

In addition, our family sponsors Raul, a little boy from Nicaragua who shares the same Birth Date with our son, and Anjealye, a little girl from Peru who shares the same Birth Date as our oldest daughter, through Compassion International www.compassion.com.

Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.

Founded by Rev. Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion began providing Korean War orphans with food, shelter, education and health care, as well as Christian training.

Today, Compassion helps more than 900,000 children in 24 countries.

A large part of being ability to give back is due in part to our desire to get own personal financial house in order. It was only after years of financial struggles and a near bankruptcy that we realized the need for a budget which allowed us to eventually pay off all our personal debt.

Both offer programs and tools that help people dump their debt, get control of their money, and learn new behaviors around money that are founded on commitment and accountability. They teach people how to be financially responsible so they can acquire wealth to take care of loved ones, live prosperously into old age, and give generously to others. These two organizations provided us with the tools to understand how to manage our personal and business financials by Biblical Standards. As a result, I now devote a fair amount of time serving as the Financial Ministry Coordinator of my church and as a trained Personal Budget Counselor to singles and couples who may be struggling financially.
